HISTORY
Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, a specialised bookstore established in 1912, is a part of the Rautakirja group since 1924. In the 1990s, Suomalainen Kirjakauppa grew dynamically to become Finland's largest nation-wide chain of bookstores. In 1999, an online bookstore, Suomalainen.com, was established to complement the service range.
Suomalainen Kirjakauppa's parent company Rautakirja was established in 1910 and is today an internationally growing consumer-driven retail and service corporation that includes Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, press distribution company Lehtipiste, R-kiosks, Veikkausrasti tipping and lottery outlets and Finnkino movie theatres. Rautakirja is a part of the SanomaWSOY Group since 1999.

Rautakirja's Bookstores recorded net sales of EUR 138,9 million in 2006. Book sales (Finnish and translated fiction, textbooks, non-fiction and juvenile books) account for about 70 % of this figure, and the remaining 30 % consists of annual magazine subscriptions, office supplies, diaries and calendars, calculators, stationery articles, games and online products. The total workforce numbers about 850.
